How Does the TAG Heuer Warranty Work?

How does the TAG Heuer warranty work?

In TAG Heuer’s own words:

”Your TAG Heuer has been manufactured in the strict tradition of Swiss watchmaking and has been individually tested to ensure that it is water-resistant and functions perfectly. Nevertheless, it is covered by a limited International guarantee against any manufacturing defect for a period of two years from the date of purchase,  under the conditions below.”

This means that a TAG Heuer watch has a two-year warranty from the date of purchase from an authorized TAG Heuer retailer, under the condition that some criteria are met.

What exactly the warranty cover and how you claim it is what we are going to look at in this article.

TAG Heuer warranty

What is covered in the Tag Heuer warranty?

TAG Heuer undertakes to repair, free of charge, any problem with the functions of the watch that result from defective manufacturing.

This means that any issues with the watch that is the result of the manufacturing will be repaired by TAG Heuer.

The guarantee is honored in official TAG Heuer service centers which can be found in more than 100 countries. This is why you need to identify the closest service center if you have any issues with your TAG.

TAG Heuer warranty restrictions

The following requirements need to be met in order for your warranty to be valid:

The serial number needs to be perfectly legible. No part of the original case back or original serial number may have been removed, modified, falsified, altered, replaced, erased, or rendered illegible.

The international guarantee/warranty card must be enclosed with the watch. The card needs to be signed and dated at the time of purchase by an official TAG Heuer retailer or TAG Heuer boutique.

If you do not have the warranty card, or if it is not filled out properly, TAG Heuer will not honor the guarantee for the watch.

All of the requirements above need to be met, otherwise, the warranty will be void.

What does the Tag Heuer warranty not cover?

As with all warranties, there are some things that the TAG Heuer warranty clearly states it does not cover. These are as follows:

Any defects that appear from actions that are carried out by someone else than an official TAG Official TAG Heuer Service Centre will not be covered by the warranty. Furthermore, the warranty will be void if a non-authorized part opens up the watch and works on it.

The TAG warranty does not cover bracelets, crystals, and batteries, as these are parts that are worn due to natural circumstances.

The warranty does not cover any deterioration of the case or movement due to humidity that has entered the watch as a result of improper handling.  The warranty does not cover improper handling of the watch in any way. TAG Heuer does not exactly specify what exactly improper handling of the watch means.

If Tag Heuer watchmakers find evidence of misuse or abuse when inspecting the watch, the warranty will be void, since any inaccuracies may have been the cause of improper misuse.

Shall there be any issues with your watch, only TAG Heuer and its service centers are entitled to repair or perform any actions of repair on the TAG Heuer timepieces.

You can find a complete list of Official TAG Heuer Service Centres here.

Have in mind that the TAG Heuer warranty does not limit your right as a customer. As a customer, you still have your legal rights, applicable in the country where you purchased the watch.

Save guarantee booklet and international warranty

Your TAG Heuer watch comes accompanied by a guarantee booklet. Make sure you save these booklets and carefully read them through.

Furthermore, your international warranty card should accompany your booklets, so make sure you do not lose your warranty card since it will mean that you miss your warranty.

Digital Tag Heuer Warranty

TAG Heuer has started using a digital warranty card and system that is digital.

This allows TAG to better keep track of the watches that are sold and when they are sold. Previously, all warranty cards were a card made of paper, but now, warranty cards are made of plastic and are digital.

In the top white box is a code and then a matching QR Code is in the bottom square box. The warranty card matches the watch’s serial number and records the model of the watch and the seller. The digital warranty also allows you to check the validity of your watch’s warranty online on TAG Heuer’s website. There, you will be able to see when the warranty was activated and how long. Note that TAG Heuer has worked on developing this digital warranty database so it may not work perfectly at all times.

To check your watch, you can visit TAG Heuer warranty checker. On the page, type in your watch’s serial number and you will get your own record of the warranty and when it’s valid until. Note that in the recent year, TAG Heuer has been working on updating its online warranty checker.

This new digital TAG Heuer warranty is much more detailed and advanced than the old paper warranty. Not only does it allow it to be more exact, but it also allows you to avoid buying a counterfeit TAG Heuer as you can easily confirm its validity by looking up its serial number online.

How To Check TAG Heuer Serial Number

Tag Heuer is one of the largest Swiss manufacturers in terms of watches produced yearly. It is today known as a luxury brand and is well-known all around the world. But with all of this also comes that Tag Heuer watches are commonly counterfeited.

One way to avoid buying a counterfeit watch is by looking at the serial number. However, have in mind that this is no guarantee that the watch is authentic. But more on this later.

In this article, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about Tag Heuer serial numbers. How do they work? Where can you find the serial number?

TAG Heuer serial numbers

The serial number of a Tag Heuer is unique to a specific watch. This helps identify the exact watch, for example when it was manufactured, which model the serial number was used for, and so on. The serial number normally comprises two or three letters followed by four numbers. However, some differences can apply to the number of letters and numbers.

The serial number is not to be confused with the model number, also known as the reference number. The reference number is, as the name suggests, the number that reflects the model of the watch. This is not unique to a specific watch, but rather an exact model. Tag Heuer changed the reference number system in 1992.

The serial numbers vary a lot for watches before 1992 before this new update.

Where can I find my TAG Heuer watch’s serial number?

Every single Tag Heuer watch that leaves the factory is engraved with the reference number and the serial number on the case back. If the watch has a see-through case back, it will be engraved on the edge of the case back.

Sometimes it can be difficult to spot the serial number with the naked eye depending on the model, and you may need a loupe or magnification to read it. Both the serial number and reference number are placed directly above the other.

The bottom number is your TAG Heuer’s unique serial number and the top is the model reference number which relates to the model type.

Tag Heuer watches without serial numbers?

As mentioned, all Tag Heuer watches have serial numbers. This means that if you have a Tag Heuer watch that does not have a serial number, it is probably fake.

Now, as mentioned earlier, some vintage Tag Heuer watches did not have serial numbers, but the number is, generally speaking, very low.

In some cases, the serial number bay has been buffed or polished away, and you should always avoid buying a watch that has had the serial number intentionally removed as it may be signs that it has been stolen.

Now, don’t believe that if a Tag Heuer watch has a serial number, it is authentic, because this is not the case. If a counterfeiter has made a whole watch, it is not difficult to engrave a serial number as well. In most cases, the serial number used is completely made up. However, in some cases, c counterfeiters go to great lengths by finding the serial numbers of real Tag Heuer watches, for example online, and then using the serial number of an authentic Tag Heuer watch for their counterfeit watch.

You can, if you are suspicious, search your serial number on the internet. Many fake watches use the same serial number, even though they may use the serial number from an authentic watch (or not). Sometimes forums and discussion platforms highlight fake watches and common serial numbers used.

TAG Heuer Autavia CBE.2110.FC8226

Tag Heuer serial number lookup

Tag Heuer has a serial number database lookup online that allows you to see – with the help of your serial number – when the warranty was activated. This can be seen at http://tag.hr/warranty.

This website is currently under construction, but we will see if Tag Heuer decides to further build on and improve the Tag Heuer serial number database.

The good thing about the Tag Heuer serial number lookup is that when you search for your serial number, it allowed you to easily see if the serial number matched your watch as well as your watch’s production date. The digital TAG Heuer warranty is a huge step up for TAG Heuer as it helps prevent counterfeit watches. The issue is, of course, that counterfeiters can still steal serial numbers online and use them for the same watch, so when someone looks it up, it will show up on TAG Heuer’s website, although it is actually for a different (and authentic) watch).

TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12

If you have a fake watch, it is not uncommon that the serial number matches a completely different model than the one you have. Or… no results are found when you search for it, which means the counterfeiters have just made up a serial number to use.

If you are uncertain about the authenticity of your Tag Heuer visit a Tag Heuer official retailer and they may be able to help you verify it. A skilled watchmaker may also be able to help you.

TAG Heuer calibre 5 Complete Guide

The Tag Heuer calibre 5 is a movement (caliber) used by Tag Heuer for a large number of watches. In fact, it may very well be TAG’s most well-known caliber. TAG Has several different variations of the Calibre 5. It is one of TAG’s go-to flagship movements.

It uses the ETA 2824-2 as its base, but TAG has in turn given it the name calibre 5. However, it can also be based on the Sellita SW200.

It is an automatic movement with a bidirectional rotor. It has a power reserve of 42 hours and beats at a frequency of 28800 vph. The movement it uses as its base, the 2824, has a power reserve of 38 hours, but TAG has upped the power reserve to 42 hours.

In terms of functions, it displays hours, minutes, seconds, and the date. It has a diameter of 25.6mm. Inside the movement are 25 jewels. The Sellita has 26 jewels.

The movement is Swiss-made. It cannot, however, be called an in-house movement.

Depending on the version, the calibre 5 can be decorated differently.  Some versions have ”Côtes de Genève”, but all versions are engraved “TAG Heuer — Calibre 5 — Swiss Made”.

Tag Heuer calibre 5 accuracy

How accurate is the Tag Heuer calibre 5? To begin with, it is, in general, not a COSC-certified movement.

There are, however, variations of the Calibre 5 that are COSC certified, including the movement for the Autavia calibre 5. This means an average daily rate on the first 10 days of testing: from -4 sec to +6 sec.

TAG Heuer calibre 5 specifications

  • Power reserve: 42 hours
  • Frequency: 28800 VPH
  • Jewels: 25 on ETA and 26 on Sellita
  • Functions: Date, seconds, minutes, hours
  • Base: ETA2824-2 or Sellita SW200

Tag Heuer Calibre 17 complete guide

The Tag Heuer calibre 17 is a chronograph movement from TAG. It uses the ETA 2894-2 as its base but has been slightly modified. It is modular and is made both with and without an hour totalizer.

Modular means that a complications module (in this case the chronograph) is added to the base time-only movement. The fact that TAG has several versions of the same caliber can make it rather confusing because TAG Heuer calls both the 2892 and the 2893 ETA bases, “Calibre 7”.

The movement is an automatic movement with an analog display. It beats with a frequency of 28800 vph. It has a diameter of 28mm and has 37 jewels. The power reserve is 42 hours.

The functions include chronograph, date, hours, small seconds. The date has a rapid date correction.

Like all Tag Heuer automatic movements, it is made in Switzerland.

The movement is decorated with “Côtes de Genève” and engraved “TAG Heuer — Calibre 17 — Swiss Made”.

Tag Heuer has two variants of the Calibre 17. One has a two-register chronograph with running seconds at 3 o’clock – a 30-minute chronograph register at 9 o’clock; date window at 6 o’clock.

The other version is a three register Chronograph that has an added 12-hour register at 6 o’clock.

Tag Heuer Calibre 17 specifications

  • Base: ETA 2894-2
  • Jewels: 37
  • Power reserve: 42 hours
  • Frequency: 28800 VPH (4hz)
  • Automatic.

TAG Heuer Isograph Recall: a Complete Report

In September 2019, Tag Heuer recalled all its Isograph watches worldwide, without saying a word to the public. In this article, we will discuss the worldwide Tag Heuer Isograph recall and why it turned out the way it did.

At Baselworld in March 2019, Tag Heuer announced a brand new collection of watches called Isograph. The Autavia was originally meant as a timepiece for aviation and automobile ( Auto + Aviation = Autavia. ), however, the watch mostly established itself as a motorsport timepiece and did not really catch on with the aviation crowd

However, the Autavia was actually used as a pilot’s watch in some instances, as back in the day, Heuer made Autavias for the Kenyan and Argentine Air Force.

And with the Isograph, TAG Heuer is experimenting with a side of the Autavia that’s mostly forgotten; aviation.

The Isograph was released by Tag Heuer as part of the Autavia collection to remind us that it’s just as capable as a pilot’s watch as it is a motorsports chronograph.

To make this Autavia more aviation-inspired, they’ve taken the watch in a three-hand direction and traded the traditional indices for Arabic numerals on the dial. A bi-directional 60-minute bezel, broad sword-shaped hands, and an oversized crown round out the cockpit-inspired aesthetic and functionality. This new range has the distinction of “Isograph” nomenclature which refers to the carbon composite hairspring utilized in TAG Heuer’s own Caliber 5 movement. What’s new is that the caliber 5 caliber has a carbon hairspring.

Things were looking really good for the Isograph collection. At its release, it received a ton of praise. But then, they were all recalled worldwide. Here’s what you need to know.

Tag Heuer Isograph worldwide recall

As mentioned, Tag Heuer has not communicated any information about the recall of the Isograph timepiece. Tag Heuer retailers have been informed about the recall, but in silence, TAG has removed the Isograph from their website and removed any promotional content related to this model from their social media. With that said, Tag Heuer obviously does not want the recall of this model to become official or widespread news, because the recall of this model tells us that there is some kind of technical issue with it – something that is never good marketing for a brand.

The recall was done relatively early on in its production, however, the model had already started reaching official retailers and started selling, but any and all watches that retailers have received have been sent back to TAG.

So what does this mean for owners of the Isograph? Well, TAG Heuer will buy back any models already sold to customers, but it is of course up to the customer to decide if they want to.

Why TAG Heuer recalled the Isograph

The worldwide recall of the Isograph has to do with a technical issue. The issue supposedly has something to do with the new materials used in the movement. The carbon composite hairspring was praised as innovative when the model was released, but the issue could potentially have to do with the hairspring which may not be durable enough for real-life use.

Tag Heuer Isograph recall

The user @Aquagraph on Forums Calibre 11 asked the question and received this response:

We have limited the production of the timepieces featuring the new Isograph technology. This technology is a watchmaking first and its currently being tested and finalized at TAG Heuer, with an on-going improvement of the production and assembly processes. The Isograph technology works and the limited quantities we have produced have passed the COSC certification. The challenge for this breakthrough technology, already in high demand, is that for a larger production / higher volumes, the production and assembling processes have to be finetuned, in order to achieve the highest quality level we expect from all our timepieces. That’s the reason we/ TH are / is now proceeding to a period of extensive testing.”

With that said, TAG may have just been too eager to start mass-producing the carbon hairspring after it was announced in the Tourbillon Nanograph, which is produced in far fewer numbers than the new Isograph range.

Latest news about the Tag Heuer Isograph

After some detective work, we are able to share some very interesting news related to the Tag Heuer Autavia Isograph.

If you search Autavia on the TAG website, you will be able to find all Isograph models:

However, what you may notice is that the collection is no longer promoted as ”Isograph”. Instead, they have simply named it ”TAG HEUER AUTAVIA CALIBRE 5 CHRONOMETER”.

Furthermore, looking at one of these watches will reveal a very interesting detail:

Do you see it?

Here’s a photo of the old Isograph to help you:

That’s right, the Isograph printing has been removed from the dial and instead been replaced by ”Automatic”.

So apparently, this is TAG’s way of moving forward from this big mistake, if you may. The model has been renamed, which means that the carbon composite hairspring which was wildly celebrated as innovative is no more, as the watches are instead equipped with standard Calibre 5 calibers. A rebranding seems like a good decision to make, because other than the issues with the movement, the Isograph is a great-looking model that received great reviews related to its design. Plus, it’s safe to say that TAG has invested tons of resources in designing and developing this new model, so it simply wouldn’t make financial sense to abandon it altogether.

With that said, the Isograph name came from the technology of the carbon-composite hairspring that brings serious anti-magnetic and shock properties. But now that TAG has abandoned the name, it indeed means that the carbon-composite hairspring is no more.

Previously, TAG proudly promoted the carbon-composite hairspring in the specifications, but now, it’s nowhere to be found.

Does the abandonment of this revolutionary hairspring remove much of the value proposition of the Autavia Isograph? It’s safe to say that it indeed does. On paper, this technology was a big value proposition added to the model. But now, it features a standard TAG caliber 5 movement which can be found in a big number of other Tag Heuer timepieces.

Lastly, what we are also able to note is that because of the change of the movement, all (previously Isograph) models have now gotten a new reference number.

So the natural question is: Will TAG decrease the price because of the removal of the revolutionary hairspring from the model? The answer is yes probably, but only by a few hundred.

Conclusion

With the early recall of this model, we can assume that only a relatively small number of Isograph watches have reached end consumers. However, they are out there. Could this mean that this first generation of Isograph watches will become future collector’s pieces, which symbolize a part in TAG’s history when they made a mistake that leads to worldwide recall? Who knows.

What we do know is that Tag Heuer will not continue to produce or promote this collection as ”Isograph”, but rather only as ”Autavia”.

This makes the Autavias with the Isograph printing on the dial rather special…and perhaps highly sought-after in the future due to their limited production.

What is interesting is that the Tag Heuer Nanograph Tourbillon which features the same technology of a carbon hairspring is still available. If TAG eventually discontinues this watch, we will have to wait and see. But it’s certainly a shame since TAG has invested tons of resources into this new technology. Maybe it will find its way back into new watches when the brand has figured out how to make the tech reliable and durable. The selling point of the Nanograph is the hairspring, so chances are that either the Nanograph will be discontinued completely, or perfected to still be in production. Unlike the Autavia Isograph, TAG would not just replace the movement in this watch.

Will the carbon hairspring become mass-produced by TAG in the future? Possibly, but first, they need to make sure the technology is reliable and works the way it should first.

Is this a good decision from TAG Heuer to rebrand it and fit it with the tried and true Calibre 5 with no gimmicks? Share your thoughts in the comment section!

32 Most Interesting Facts About TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer is one of the most famous luxury watch brands in the world. It is also one of the most important watch brands in watchmaking history and has its roots deeply connected to the world of motorsport. While TAG Heuer is one of the most famous watch brands in the world, TAG Heuer isn’t like other watch brands – in many different aspects. Through the larger parts of its history, the brand has been focused on the motorsport niche and creating truly helpful tools, especially in the form of steel-cased chronographs. Through innovation, precision, and ingenuity, TAG Heuer differentiated itself and found its horological niche within the watchmaking industry.

The history of TAG Heuer is long, and through its innovations and many years in the watchmaking industry, it has been able to establish itself as one of the most powerful luxury watch companies today.

In this article, we’re listing the top most interesting facts about TAG Heuer, including innovations, its history, and interesting events that made TAG Heuer into the company it is today.

32 facts about Tag Heuer

1. Heuer Watch Company was founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer

2. The first watchmaking shop of Edouard Heuer was situated in the Jura region in Switzerland

This can technically be referred to as the first TAG Heuer factory.

3. TAG Heuer is based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland

4. In the 1920s, Heuer watches were used during the Olympics in Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Paris

5. TAG Heuer was the official timekeeper for three Olympics due to its high-precision timepieces. As a result, TAG Heuer gained a great reputation and established itself as an industry expert in timing sporting events.

6. Heuer introduced its first wrist chronograph in 1914

Before this time, Heuer had just like all the brands, been all about pocket watches.

7. Edouard Heuer developed and patented the oscillating pinion in 1887

This is one of the most significant facts about TAG Heuer as it is an event of great importance for the whole watch industry, nonetheless for the Heuer brand.

The oscillating pinion is a movable shaft that is mounted with two sprockets. The first pinion is in constant engagement with the second wheel of the watch movement, while, at the same, time, the opposite pinion, after a short swing, grips into the chronograph center wheel. Through this, the connection is established and the chronograph starts running.

Pressing the other chronograph button causes the oscillating pinion to move away from the center wheel, and thus the Chronograph stops.

This invention simplified the chronograph significantly, and still to this very day, the construction of the oscillating pinion is used by major movement manufacturers. Most importantly, this event made TAG Heuer synonymous with high-quality and precise chronograph watches – something that is, to a large extent still true today.

8. Heuer launched its Autavia model in 1933

This wasn’t the wristwatch you know as the Autavia, today, though. Instead, the first Autavia model was a dashboard stopwatch for race cars. Upon its launch, it was also the first dashboard stopwatch for race cars in the world.

9. Fact about TAG Heuer: the derivation of the Autavia name?

The Autavia collection is one of the most famous and important for the TAG Heuer brand, but where does the name derive from?

The name Autavia actually comes from “AUTos” and “AVIAtion”). Put these two together and you have Autavia.

10. Heuer received a patent for the first dashboard chronograph in 1911

Heuer received the patent for its “Time of Trip” dashboard chronograph.

11. TAG Heuer made the first watch able to measure 1/100th of a second

In 1916, TAG Heuer released the original Mikrograph. This timepiece was so precise and accurate that it was able to measure 1/100th of a second. In order to create such a watch, the movement used was beating at a rate of 360,000 vph. This is ten times faster than the 36,000 vph chronographs that are normally referred to as fast

It was also thanks to the extreme precision of the original Mikrograph that TAG Heuer became the official timekeeper during the Olympics as no other watchmaking competitor had produced a watch of such high precision.

12. Heuer was actually the first Swiss watch in space

TAG Heuer is not the first watch that comes to mind when you think about watches that have been to space.
