Rolex Discontinued Models 2022 – Complete List

Which models did Rolex discontinue in 2022? Whilst the highlight of every year’s Rolex releases are the novelties, it’s also interesting to know which models Rolex discontinues and puts out of production. Some models are replaced by a new version whilst some are just removed from the collection.

For the year 2022, Rolex released a ton of new interesting models. They introduced a new Air-King reference 126900, introduced a green dial for the Day-Date 228238, released the Yach-Master 42 Oysterflex in yellow gold, and presented a ton of new dial variations.

In total, Rolex released 168 new configurations in the form of new models, new references, new dial variations, and new bracelet variations. But whilst Rolex every year introduces new models, there are also a few models that have to go. Some are replaced by completely new references, as the 116900 Air-King was with the 126900. But in other cases, Rolex simply discontinues models without introducing any replacements.

The most notable discontinued models are some dial variations of the Oyster Perpetual 31, 36, and 41mm. Most importantly, perhaps the most sought-after watch in the whole of Rolex’s collection, reference 124300 with turquoise “Tiffany” dial was discontinued. Only 2 years after first having been introduced in 2020.

The yellow dial options and coral red dial options were also discontinued completely. These were the most surprising amongst Rolex’s discontinued models considering their short production time.

Whilst some models are discontinued completely unexpectedly and out of the blue, some models are more expected. This was the case with the Air-King 116900.

In this post, we have compiled a list of all the models that Rolex discontinued at Watches & Wonders 2022.

    Thanks vm!

    1. Hi,
Yacht-Master II reference 116689 is officially discontinued as of 2022.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches

  2. This sentence needs correction: “Only 2 years after first having been introduced in 2022.”
Yes I am surprised these colourful dials are finished. Perhaps the red, Tiffany blue and yellow are difficult to produce to maintain a consistent hue?

    1. Hi,
      Thank you very much!
Only Rolex knows the reason. But we would assume that it has to do with the fact that Rolex wants to maintain their highly rare and exclusive nature. Just imagine how special and sought-after these watches will be in a few years. Similar to how sought-after the Stella dial is amongst collectors. It will certainly help boost the brand’s prestige.

      Kind regards,

  3. One of my AD’s lied about the green dial OP being discontinued as well when there was one sitting right in the display case…I pointed it out and she was like oh its exhibition only. Then I said its still on the Rolex website and she actually had the nerve to say ‘Oh they haven’t updated their site’ YEAAAAA RIGHT.

This is a place I’ve purchased 4 watches from, one of them being a Rolex. All she kept going in about were other brands and diamonds…

Later that same day I went to another AD which is a Rolex only boutique, I have only purchased one watch from their partner Tudor boutique and he difference was night and day. No other brands mentioned and no lying through their teeth. I actually feel I will have better luck getting a piece through them.

I haven’t blasted the AD in a google review because I still have hopes of getting something but I will definitely be changing my sales associate and giving them a lot less business than originally intended.

    1. Hi Jack,
      Thanks for sharing your experience!
The green OP is certainly still in production. And Rolex’s website is updated the minute the release is announced.
Rolex boutiques may be easier, as you say. You should absolutely change the person you are talking to.

      Kind regards,

      1. Excellent discussion about the green OP. I believe this is the only “Stella” color still in production with both 41 and 36mm. Do you think it will be discontinued anytime?

I’m thinking about getting one. However, the hope of AD never dies.

        1. Hi,
Considering the fact that Rolex discontinued the rest of the colors so quickly, we wouldn’t be surprised if Rolex discontinued the green dial within a relatively short period of time. We can only speculate about the reason for the short production..

          Kind regards,
          Millenary Watches

  4. Has this model been discontinued 277200? Thanks

    1. Hi,
The 277200 was released in 2020 and has NOT been discontinued. Rolex did remove some dial options for this model in 2022 and added the celebration dial in 2023 but the model is still in production.

      Kind regards,
      Millenary Watches
